Peer Supervision Professional (PSP) Certification Training will prepare experienced and new peer supervisors to take their role of guiding and managing certified recovery peer advocates (CRPA’s) and peer support specialists with more confidence and guidance in their day to day work.

The program offered by Recovery Coach University equips participants with the necessary knowledge and skills to effectively oversee and evaluate the performance of peer specialists, advocate on their behalf, and facilitate communication between peer specialists (non-clinical) and non-peer specialists (sometimes clinical). While PSP certification does not entail becoming a peer professional, it is an ideal platform and credential for those who are regularly engaged with peers in their professional practice. This certification provides invaluable tools for ensuring the success and development of peer support specialists and enhancing the overall effectiveness of peer delivered services.

Course Description:

Fulfilling the NYCB Peer Professional Supervision Certification, this course covers best practices, core competencies, and the opportunity to apply the learning in small groups to enhance your peer supervisory skills and knowledge.
The New York Certification Board recognizes that the provision of excellent supervision is arguably the most important aspect of enhancing and sustaining an agency’s peer program, allowing for the most effective peer support services and improved client outcomes. Therefore, they have created a certification pathway for Peer Professional Supervision, which includes this 20-hour course. We will review quality supervision, which allows Peer Recovery Professionals to identify and grow their unique strengths, effectively address areas for improvement, and truly flourish in their professional lives. As a result, employee retention is enhanced because peers feel valued, self-care is prioritized, and trust and safety are paramount.

This highly interactive and skills-based training will focus on:

• Review the Peer Recovery role and how it fits into organizational structure

• Potential ethical issues specific to Peer Recovery Specialists

• Importance of self-care and wellness
