About Recovery Coach University
Empowering Recovery. Educating Professionals. Strengthening Communities. At Recovery Coach University (RCU), we believe recovery is possible, every pathway deserves respect, and quality education creates stronger recovery communities. Founded in 2016 by Lori Drescher, RCU is dedicated to preparing recovery coaches, peer professionals, and advocates through engaging, evidence-informed training rooted in lived experience, compassion, and person-centered practices.
More Than Training. A Commitment to Recovery.
Our Mission
Our mission extends beyond preparing individuals for certification. We strive to inspire confidence, encourage critical thinking, and equip recovery coaches, peer professionals, advocates, and organizations with the tools needed to provide ethical, effective, and meaningful support.
To educate, empower, and inspire recovery support professionals through accessible, engaging, and comprehensive training that promotes dignity, autonomy, inclusion, and respect for all pathways of recovery.
Our Philosophy
We believe that recovery is deeply personal and that individuals are the experts in their own lives. Our educational approach reflects the core principles of recovery-oriented care, emphasizing self-determination, mutual respect, cultural humility, and the importance of meeting people where they are.
We recognize the value of lived and living experience and believe that meaningful learning happens when professional knowledge is combined with authentic connection, collaboration, and real-world application.
The RCU Learning Experience
At Recovery Coach University, education is more than completing a course or earning a certificate. We create interactive, supportive learning environments that encourage participants to ask questions, challenge assumptions, explore diverse perspectives, and develop skills they can confidently apply in their work.
Our trainings emphasize:
Person-Centered Practices: Honoring individual choice, autonomy, and multiple pathways of recovery.
Ethical Excellence: Promoting professional integrity, healthy boundaries, and responsible recovery support.
Experiential Learning: Bringing concepts to life through meaningful discussions, activities, and real-world scenarios.
Lived Experience: Recognizing the knowledge, insight, and perspectives of individuals and families impacted by substance use.
Inclusive Education: Creating welcoming spaces where diverse backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives are valued.
Professional Growth: Supporting continued education, skill development, and confidence throughout every stage of a recovery professional's journey.
Our Commitment to the Recovery Community
We are committed to advancing the recovery support profession, reducing stigma, and strengthening the quality of services available to individuals, families, and communities.
Whether someone is entering the field for the first time, pursuing professional credentials, expanding their knowledge, or strengthening their organization's recovery-oriented practices, RCU provides education designed to support meaningful, lasting impact.
More Than Training. A Commitment to Recovery.
At Recovery Coach University, we don't just teach the principles of recovery support. We strive to model them through every interaction, every training, and every opportunity to connect.
